HÀ NỘI French band Luiza will join a concert tour hosted by the French Insitute in Hà Nội performing with local bands Mắm and The Gratoners.
The concert will tour HCM City, Huế, Đà Nẵng and Hà Nội from June 14 to 16.
The four-member Luiza band comprises vocalist Luiza Fernandes Viana, saxophonist Dorian Zavatta, guitar and trumpet artist Théo Kaiser, and sound technician Barradon Enguerrand.
The artists will take audience on a journey to explore new sounds where traditional music from Brazil, Reunion Island and the Balkans is blended with electro-pop, dub and R&B.
Luiza is a French-Cape Verdean singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who stitches together eclectic musical influences with poetic introspection.
Born to Cape Verdean parents and raised in France, her music effortlessly blends French chanson, Afro-Lusophone rhythms jazz, and indie pop, creating a sound as cosmopolitan as her heritage.
Tracks like Tous les jours and La Capitaine showcase her knack for pairing laid-back grooves with candid, storytelling lyrics, while OXALA (If God Wills It) is a nod to her roots with warm, soulful textures.
At the concert, Luiza will express a powerful feminist spirit – “an anthem for women” as she once said.
Known for her collaborative spirit, Luiza often bridges genres and cultures, like on Nadjilo where she teams up with Tanzanian rapper Khoe Wa for a genre-blurring exchange. Her work explores themes of identity, displacement, and everyday resilience, wrapped in melodies that feel both intimate and globally minded.
Mắm is one of the country’s emerging music bands. They come from different regions to create a unique, unmistakable sound identity, with an attractive and energetic performance style. They will perform a bold blend of hip-hop, funk, soul, jazz and rock, vibrant choreography and a youthful, optimistic spirit.
The Gratoners is a reggae fusion band founded in Hà Nội by artists from South Africa and the UK. With a style that blends reggae, funk, dub and dancehall, The Gratoners are a prominent name in the Vietnamese underground community.
The band performed at Outlook Festival Vietnam 2022. They have released two EPs and are in the process of completing their debut album, aiming to introduce Vietnamese reggae to the world. VNS
