Recently, the renowned UK travel magazine National Geographic Traveller announced its 2024 list of Lakeside and Mountain Resorts.
Topas Ecolodge is the sole representative from Vietnam to appear in this prestigious list, marking the first time a Vietnamese resort has been recognized in this category. Previously, the resort was listed among the top 21 must-experience destinations for its unique environmental features in 2017, and as one of the most unique resorts in the world in 2018 as voted by the organization.
National Geographic Traveller’s list features approximately 60 of the most beautiful and unique lakeside and mountain destinations worldwide. According to National Geographic, “Topas Ecolodge is situated atop a stunning hill, mesmerizing visitors with its pristine natural beauty. Nestled amidst towering mountain ranges, each bungalow here is meticulously designed with traditional materials and sophisticated Northern European style, offering panoramic views of the mountains and forests.”
In its introduction, the organization highlighted the majestic natural landscapes and guest experiences at the heart of Hoang Lien Son National Park, as well as Topas Ecolodge’s commitment to supporting the local community.
Located on a picturesque mountaintop, a 45-minute drive from Sapa town (Lao Cai), the resort comprises 49 bungalows constructed from white granite in the style of local stilt houses, providing both rustic charm and modern comforts for guests.
The recognition of Vietnam’s resort alongside other esteemed global representatives demonstrates Sapa’s position as a premier mountain resort destination worldwide.

Alongside its beauty, National Geographic also noted the resort’s sustainable tourism efforts: “The resort minimizes environmental impact through eco-friendly swimming pool heating systems, domestic wastewater treatment systems, and reduced single-use plastic consumption. Topas Ecolodge also focuses on supporting the local community by employing indigenous people, training skills in the hospitality industry for inexperienced individuals, thus expanding career opportunities.”
Visitors can also experience unique Northwest Vietnamese cuisine, professionally prepared to harmoniously blend local and international flavors, while enjoying panoramic views of the mountainous forests.
National Geographic also introduces several unique experiential activities at the resort, such as trekking through terraced rice fields, visiting quaint villages, exploring the traditional cultures of ethnic minorities, and discovering local markets. From July to September, visitors can witness the breathtaking sight of golden ripe rice fields cascading down the mountainsides like silk ribbons.
