In December 2023, Starbucks – the renowned coffee chain operating in the Vietnamese market – announced a trial implementation of cashless payment at some stores in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
This year, the method has gradually expanded to many other stores, making Starbucks the pioneering coffee chain in adopting the “cashless” model in Vietnam.
This is considered a breakthrough in the F&B industry in Vietnam, as not many establishments have fully transitioned to accepting payments via credit cards, e-wallets, Apple Pay, and Google Wallet.

Currently, the stores applying for cashless payments in Ho Chi Minh City include Starbucks Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (District 3), Starbucks E-Town (Tan Binh District), Starbucks Cobi (District 7), Starbucks Golden Mansion (Phu Nhuan District), Starbucks Me Linh Point (District 1), Starbucks Aeon (Tan Phu District), Starbucks Emporium (District 11), and several stores in Thu Duc City such as Starbucks The Vista, Starbucks Gateway, Starbucks Vinhomes Origami, and Starbucks Sun Avenue.
In Hanoi, the stores include Starbucks Duy Tan (Cau Giay District), Starbucks Trung Hoa (Cau Giay District), and Starbucks The Legend (Thanh Xuan District). When paying at the counter, customers can use a Starbucks Rewards card, e-wallet, or bank card.
During the initial phase, the stores will still accept cash payments in unavoidable cases such as when customers forget to bring their phone, bank card, wallet, or do not use banking apps or e-wallets.

Cashless payment is a global trend as technology continues to advance. Transferring funds, swiping credit cards, or scanning QR codes offers a fast, convenient, and low-contact experience.
Moreover, this payment method helps mitigate some issues associated with using cash. Therefore, Starbucks’ decision to switch to a “cashless” model also adds momentum to the development of digital payment services.
