HÀ NỘI — An exhibition featuring artworks in various styles and mediums by ten female painters from across Việt Nam will take place at the Fine Arts Exhibition Hall on Ngô Quyền Street in Hà Nội from April 7-15.
In its 10th edition, Sắc Màu Bắc Trung Nam (The Colours of Northern, Central and Southern Regions) exhibition will gather painters Bùi Mai Hiên, Tào Thu Hương, Trần Thanh Thục, Nguyễn Thị Lan Hương, Trang Thanh Hiền, Trần Thảo Hiền, Nguyễn Ngọc Đan, Hồ Thị Xuân Thu, Ngô Đình Bảo Vi and Trần Thị Đào.
Similar to previous exhibitions, this year’s event continues to welcome new artists who share a deep passion for painting and eagerness for exploration. Among the new participating painters are Trang Thanh Hiền, Nguyễn Ngọc Đan, Nguyễn Thảo Hiền and Trần Thị Đào.
Ten female painters will present 50 new artworks brimming with vibrant colours that depict various aspects of life as well as the thoughts and emotions of women.
“The 10th exhibition features both familiar and new faces. They include senior ones who have been with The Colours of Northern, Central and Southern Regions throughout the nine previous exhibitions, as well as those joining for the first time,” said painter Trần Thanh Thục, one of the co-organisers of the art event.
“However, all ten painter-mothers share a common passion for painting and a desire to convey the vibrant beauty of life through their artworks. With a rich variety of subjects and diverse materials, we aim to further celebrate and honour the beauty of femininity,” she added.

A senior member of The Colours of Northern, Central and Southern Regions who has participated in the exhibition since its early days, painter Bùi Mai Hiên will present abstract and surrealistic paintings on acrylic material. Themes such as mountains, forests, oceans and skies are depicted with unique and harmonious lines and colours, evoking a multitude of thoughts for viewers.

Artist Trần Thanh Thục will bring to the exhibition fabric artworks depicting poetic natural landscapes or the iconic landmarks of Hà Nội such as the Hoàn Kiếm (Returned Sword) Lake, all of which are imbued with her nostalgic feelings and emotions of the past.
Meanwhile, painter Tào Thu Hương will showcase her three new large-size oil paintings inspired by the beauty of young women.
“The youth of a woman itself is already a form of beauty, which is demonstrated in every moment of daily life, whether they are taking a break, surfing their smartphones or wearing traditional Vietnamese áo dài (long dress). This truly evokes strong emotions within me and I want to continue exploring it further,” she told Việt Nam News.

One of the first participants of the exhibition, HCM-based painter Nguyễn Ngọc Đan will introduce five still-life oil paintings from her Chim Hoa Cá Lá (Birds, Flowers, Fish, Leaves) series.
“By selecting themes that are not highly regarded as the main subject in the paintings, this series represents my artistic viewpoint – the subject is not entirely decisive; what matters is the manner in which visual language is used to express ideas, convey messages, and bring the artist’s philosophy to the viewers,” she said.
Various themes of life are exploited in other exhibited artworks like lotus in Nguyễn Thị Lan Hương’s paintings, human and nature in the Central Highlands in Hồ Thị Xuân Thu and Trần Thị Đào’s works, or meditation and Buddhism in Trang Thanh Hiền’s.
According to Đan, the interesting feature of the exhibition is that it is not fixed in the participating artists, which leads to diversity, creative tendencies and fresh nuances.
“Each exhibition serves as a connecting point for artists, especially The Colours of Northern, Central and Southern Regions which creates opportunities for artists from various places in the country to exchange ideas and showcase their diverse artistic materials.
“The convergence of different artistic forms in one exhibition space brings not only excitement to the viewers but also to the participating artists themselves, allowing the art to spread to the public. This is not only my personal expectation but also a shared desire of the entire group,” she added. — VNS
