HCM CITY — Thirty acrylic-on-canvas paintings by Vietnamese and Indian artists are on display at an exhibition of the Việt Nam-India International Artistic Camp 2022 at Văn Lang University in HCM City until Sunday (November 13).
The camp, co-organised by Văn Lang University’s Fine Arts and Design, India’s World University of Design (WUD) and the Kekkeyellam Foundation, opened from November 1.
It is the first exchange event of fine art and paintings to be organised by universities from the two countries, and is within the framework of the 50th anniversary of Việt Nam-India diplomatic relations.
With the theme “VllEW: Beyond and Beneath Arts Exchange”, the exhibition showcases the artworks of 11 Indian painters, 17 Vietnamese painters, and Văn Lang University’s art students.
The painters captured landscapes, daily life, people and the cultural interactions between Việt Nam and India, and highlighted the issues of environmental protection and sustainable development in their artworks.
Speaking at the exhibition’s opening ceremony on Tuesday, Phan Quân Dũng, Dean of Văn Lang University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, said a good relationship between the two countries has existed for a long time.
“The created artworks featured the similarities in the culture and art, and the aspirations for a good life and sustainable development goals between the two countries,” he said.
Indian artist Rajan Shripad Fullari captured the image of the Hùng Kings, considered the founders of Việt Nam, and five-pointed golden stars symbolising the yellow skin of Vietnamese people.
The image of the two countries’ national flags was featured in the artwork of Vietnamese painter Trần Văn Thi.
Văn Lang University has carried out many international art activities such as Creative Camp and the Workshop “Vietnam International Printed Graphics 2021”, the online International Conference of Art and Design (ICAD) 2020, and the art camp “Art for Society”.
On this occasion, two cooperation agreements have been signed between Văn Lang University, the WUD and the Kekkeyellam Foundation to implement future cultural and fine arts exchanges and cooperation.
The exhibition takes place at the Văn Lang University campus on Nguyễn Khắc Nhu Street in District 1. — VNS
