In May, Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.4 million international visitors, a 10% decrease compared to April. Besides the end of the peak season, high airfares were also a factor causing the decline in visitor numbers.

According to data recently released by the General Statistics Office (National Tourism Administration) on the morning of May 29, in the first five months of the year, Vietnam’s tourism sector received approximately 7.6 million international visitors, an increase of nearly 65% compared to the same period last year, and nearly 4% higher than the same period in 2019.
Thanks to an open visa policy and tourism promotion programs implemented nationwide, the number of visitors was significantly higher compared to the same period last year and saw an increase compared to the same period in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred.
In May alone, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.4 million, down 10% from April but up more than 50% compared to the same period in 2023. Most international visitors arrived in Vietnam by air, totaling over 6.3 million, accounting for about 83.7% of the total visitors to Vietnam in the first five months of the year.
