HCM CITY — A dance exhibition and workshop will open in HCM City on Saturday (Oct 1).
The event titled Khi Ta Không Buông Tay (We Never Give Up) will introduce an overview of different types of dance, including neoclassical ballet, contemporary dance and hip hop, which are becoming familiar to Vietnamese audiences.
Visitors can learn more about dance through videos and photos about the career of leading Vietnamese choreographers Nguyễn Tấn Lộc and Alexander Tú, along with young dancers Song Linh and Gia Linh.
The artists will provide audiences knowledge on dance and stories of how they pursue their dream.
Lộc is well-known as a director and choreographer of the city-based Arabesque Dance Troupe. He has created several stunning works which combine contemporary dance and traditional Vietnamese culture, such as Story of the Shoes, À Ố Show, and The Mist.
In 2015, Lộc was invited by Cirque Du Soleil as a choreographer for the show TORUK – The First Flight. He also became an adviser for The Ballerina, a performance to celebrate female dancer and choreographer Tố Như’s 30-year career in ballet at the HCM City Opera House in 2017.
Choreographer and dancer Alexander Tú has had 20 years of experience working with dance troupes in the US and Việt Nam, such as Kaba Modern and KM Legacy in California, and Urban Dance Group of HCM City. He is also a co-founder of Soul Dance, a part of Soul Music and Performing Arts Academy.
Meanwhile, twin dancers Song Linh and Gia Linh became popular among Vietnamese fans after entering the semi-final of TV reality show Asia’s Got Talent in 2019 with their group Hanoi X-Girls.
The group also appeared in popular music videos by pop star Hoàng Thùy Linh, including Để Mị Nói Cho Mà Nghe (Let Me Tell You), Kẻ Cắp Gặp Bà Già (The Old Woman and Her Thief), and Duyên Âm (Forbidden Love).
In addition, Song Linh and Gia Linh recently became popular again when they competed in the first season of Street Dance Vietnam, a reality dance show which was broadcast on HCM City Television in August.
The exhibition and workshop Khi Ta Không Buông Tay will take place from 10.30am to 9pm at Capital Studio, 212 Lý Chính Thắng Street in District 3. — VNS
