HÀ NỘI — Fine arts lovers will have a chance to participate in a curatorial tour at a painting exhibition of Vietnamese contemporary artists on October 29.
The exhibition is taking place at Art Patronage and Development Centre and features paintings by eight artists, including Nguyễn Xuân Hoàng, Phạm Trần Việt Nam, Trần Nhật Thăng, Lại Diệu Hà and Đặng Quang Tiến.
“This art collection is a gathering of lonesome star pieces that are foreseen not to be able to carry any galaxy missions,” said curator Trần Lương.
“Painting is a claustrophobic territoire layered with histories. Each artist’s practice floats above their territory. The painters remain sceptical at heart despite giving up their flesh and bone.”
Đà Nẵng-native artist Nam displayed two paintings from his solo exhibition in HCM City in 2018.
Sized at 252cm by 170cm, Oration For Ten Types Of Sentient Beings #7 represents a bloodthirsty tyrant surrounded by demons and evil spirits from his crimes.
It shows the artist’s subjective view of an interactive feeling towards wicked forces, demons of greed, and the mysterious things that direct malice.
The second painting, Oration For Ten Types Of Sentient Beings #12, is 276cm by 171cm and illustrates a moving character in a room enveloped by grids.
He has a very mysterious nuance with a calculated strategy in mind. Maybe things never stop and can’t be controlled.
The exhibition goers will see the three latest works by artist Thăng. He did the works this year with mixed media on canvas.
Entitled Just Like Wind, Untitled No.1 and Untitled No.2, the paintings show the artist’s inner feelings about how to be free in a chaotic life.
Artist Hoàng’s two works entitled Rạp Hát Thế Kỷ (The Century Theatre) and Ngày Tàn Của Một Đế Chế (Fall of An Empire) were made with “broad acculturation” artistic style. He can flexibly respond to various expressions of chroma, spaces and ideas.
At the same time, he developed more extensively with skills that he has learned and practised industriously.
“It just dawned on me that the world I am witnessing, with all aspects of its existence, was just a facade of other beings,” said Hoàng.
“And It was evident that those other beings were pulling me closer to the nature of my inner problems. The contradictions in inner emotions and the levels of awareness in different life situations of contemporary people manifest themselves in descriptive states, collaborative but also separated or isolated.”
One of the youngest artists at the exhibition is Đặng Quang Tiến. Born in the southern province of Bến Tre, he graduated from HCM City University of Fine Arts.
His painting watercolour on paper, Cánh Đồng Bất Tận (Endless Field), depicts an endless rice field and flocks of ducks running, a typical image of the southwest countryside, though one seen less and less.
“These images are always in my memory, which urges me to explore this topic with an open mind and deep feelings,” said Tiến.
The exhibition runs until February 28, 2023, at Creative Square, No.1 Lương Yên Street, Hai Bà Trưng District, Hà Nội.
The curatorial tour will be held at 5pm. Register information via the link: https://bit.ly/APDtour. — VNS
