On July 15, Children’s Hospital of HCMC performed the surgery to separate Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi, twins born conjoined at the pelvis, a rare condition. At 14:00 this afternoon, the hospital successfully separated 2 babies. The next step is to close the internal organs and shape the babies.
This is the case of a 25-year-old woman pregnant for the first time. In the 16th week of pregnancy, the doctor found that two babies were conjoined to the pelvic abdomen, sharing the same umbilical cord. She underwent cesarean section at 33th week of pregnancy, birth weight of both babies was 3.2 kg. The two children are named Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi.
After being transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, doctors actively treated the two babies as well as other related diseases of premature, low birth weight babies.
The two babies were conjoined to the pelvic abdomen, have the same colon frame and only have 1 anal hole … After continuous care and treatment, now the two babies are 13 months old, weighing 15kg with the play indices grow close to normal children. Two children have the necessary health conditions to be separated adhesive surgery.
The operation on the twin in the HCMC Children Hospital started at 6 AM and is scheduled to finish at 6 PM.
Doctors said the conjoined twins a condition that occurs once in every 200,000 births and twins conjoined at the pelvis that occurs in only six percent of conjoined twins around the world.
