A British man was arrested for robbery in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening.
Police in District 1 announced on February 10 that they have detained John David Ablett, 44. Vietnam Insider reports.
According to the police report, the man came to a Circle K convenience store on Nguyen Cu Trinh Street late on Sunday evening. He threatened the shop assistant with a knife, asking her for money.
The shop assistant gave him VND2.6 million (USD113). She then called the police after the man left.
Police found the man at the 23/9 Park, seizing a knife and the money.
At the police station, John David Abett said that he was homeless and lived around District 1 and had stolen the money to live off. The case is under investigation.
According to the Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, there are more than 83,500 expats in Vietnam.
Nine of ten expat respondents said they were happy with their life in Vietnam, compared to a global average of 74 percent.
The high rate put Vietnam second among 64 destinations around the world in an annual ranking compiled by InterNations, the largest global community and information site for people who live and work abroad with 3.6 million members.
In a survey of HSBC, the average salary for expats working in Vietnam is $78,750 per year, slightly higher than the global mean of $75,966.
