BÌNH PHƯỚC — The southeastern province of Bình Phước has launched a fashion show to celebrate its traditional craft—brocade weaving—and to preserve the cultural heritage of the S’Tiêng ethnic people.
Themed “Ngày Mới Trên Sóc Bom Bo” (A New Day at Bom Bo Village), the event showcased 70 exquisite dresses made from vibrant brocade.
In addition to the contemporary designs, the show also featured traditional S’Tiêng costumes.
The collection featured designs in black, indigo, green, and red, adorned with intricate patterns of cubes, birds, animals, trees, and flowers. These motifs vividly conveyed the rich stories of the forest, the spirits, and the customs of the S’Tiêng people.
Renowned designer Minh Hạnh crafted the collection using elegant, handwoven fabrics made by S’Tiêng women, both young and old.
Hạnh shared that the fashion show was intended to preserve and celebrate the S’Tiêng people’s brocade heritage, breathing new life into their traditional craft while helping to improve their livelihoods.
We feel a responsibility to bring traditional fabric into modern life,” Hạnh said, emphasising her mission to make brocade fabric both contemporary and practical while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
Renowned worldwide, Hạnh has gained recognition for her pioneering designs that celebrate the unique beauty of Vietnamese brocade, crafted by ethnic communities in the northwestern and Central Highlands regions.

The show also featured traditional music and dance performances by ethnic musicians from the province, alongside appearances by renowned artists, including People’s Artist Thanh Lam and Meritorious Artist Thùy Anh.
Trần Tuyết Minh, Vice Chairwoman of the Bình Phước People’s Committee, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This show is a meaningful cultural activity that honours, preserves, and promotes the beauty of brocade costumes and brocade weaving—a unique cultural identity of the S’Tiêng people in Bình Phước and Vietnamese ethnic groups as a whole.”
She expressed confidence that collaboration between designers, businesses, and local authorities would help establish and promote a distinctive Bình Phước brocade brand, both domestically and internationally. This initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of the S’Tiêng people in Bom Bo Village, as well as other ethnic communities throughout the locality.
The fashion show took place on Friday night at The S’Tiêng Ethnic Culture Preservation Area in Bom Bo Village, a renowned destination and cultural highlight of the province. — VNS
