The other play, Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh, is also written by Lê Chí Trung. It is directed by Nguyên Phùng and depicts the themes of patriotism and honesty.
The tragic work portrays the life and career of Lê Văn Thịnh, a famous official of the royal court of the Lý Dynasty in 1084.
The play features áo dài designer Sĩ Hoàng playing the lead role, along with Meritorious Artist Tuyết Thu and Phương Minh.
The play won the gold medal at the National Drama Festival 2021 in HCM City.
Designer Hoàng of the HCM City-based Sử Việt Company, the show’s organiser, told local media that his company and the Dalat Opera House would launch monthly shows presenting Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh and Yêu Là Thoát Tội, and other historical plays together with fashion shows of áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress).
“We expect the show will become a new tourism product of Đà Lạt to serve local people and tourists, especially students and young people,” he said.
Hoàng, a graduate of HCM City Fine Arts College, is a well-known Vietnamese designer who has made great contributions to preserving and promoting áo dài.
He has been working as a stage costume designer for many years with a large number of his products used in large-scale plays, including two produced by the Việt Nam Chèo Theatre and the Hà Nội Drama Theatre to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.
In 2021, he established Sử Việt Joint Stock Company to produce new plays about Vietnamese history with an aim to lure audiences back to the theatre.
The play Yêu Là Thoát Tội will be staged at 7pm on November 26 at the Dalat Opera House in Lâm Viên Square, and Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh on November 27. — VNS
