A man in Hanoi has been fined for slapping a woman who told him to wait in line in front of a local ATM booth last weekend.
Police in Thanh Xuan District confirmed on Sunday they had imposed a VND2.5 million (US$107) fine upon Dao Quang Tien, 39, for slapping a woman and breaking the screen of her smartphone.
The incident happened at an ATM booth at 35 Khuong Trung Street, located in the namesake ward in Hoang Mai District, on Saturday morning, according to officers.
The victim, N.T.L., was waiting for her turn to use the machine as there were many people in front of her.
Tien arrived later and cut the line, before L. reminded him to wait for his turn.
“You should stand in line like everyone else. I am with a child and still have to queue up,” the woman told Tien.
However, he replied to L. in an aggressive manner and continued heading toward the ATM.
After using the machine and failing to withdraw his money, Tien went out and began yelling at L. and slapping her face twice.
As the victim tried to film the incident, the man knocked her smartphone to the ground, causing its screen to shatter.
After L. reported the case on the same day, police summoned both of them to a working session.
Tien has already apologized to L. and offered compensation for the damage done to her phone.
Although L. accepted the apology, officers still decided to penalize the attacker.
