Doctors at the District 11 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City have recently helped a woman deliver a baby girl weighing 5.2 kilograms, the heaviest newborn ever recorded at the medical facility.
The mother, 35-year-old N.T.M. from the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, was admitted to the hospital due to stomach pain when she was 38-39 weeks pregnant.
The patient had previously undergone regular examinations at the infirmary and gained about 16 kilograms during her pregnancy.
Following an assessment, doctors decided to carry out a cesarean section on M. as the baby was heavier than average.
The surgical team gave the mother spinal anesthesia and was able to help her deliver the baby safe and sound.
Both the mother and her child are now in stable conditions and have not suffered from any abnormal health complications.
According to Pham Thi Huynh Hoa, a senior obstetrician at the hospital, the baby girl is the heaviest newborn ever delivered at the District 11 Hospital.
This is M.’s second child, Dr. Hoa continued, adding that her first son was born seven years ago and weighed about 3.8 kilograms.
