A Vietnamese street vendor has sparked outrage after she was caught on camera threatening to attack a foreigner on a street in Hoi An City, a famous tourist destination in the central province of Quang Nam.
Footage of the incident was uploaded to social media on Tuesday evening and quickly went viral.
In the 30-second video, the street vendor could be seen repeatedly shaking her fist to intimidate a foreign man as she removed a lock from his bicycle.
The foreign visitor and a female friend had reportedly arrived at the site on a bicycle.
They then parked the vehicle on the sidewalk, close to where the vendor set up her business, before taking a stroll around the Hoi An Ancient Town.
As they returned, the tourists founded that their bicycle had been locked by a chain.
A female street vendor proceeded to remove the lock from their bike in an aggressive manner, leaving the visitors shocked and speechless.
In the video, the vendor could be seen threatening to hit the male foreigner multiple times while unlocking his bike.
It appears she was the one who had put the lock on the bicycle in the first place.
Viewers of the video have voiced their objection to the Vietnamese woman’s action, saying it goes against the spirit of Hoi An City, which is famous for its people’s friendliness and hospitality.
Nguyen Van Lanh, head of the office of culture and information in Hoi An, said on Wednesday morning that the agency is working with the street vendor in the video.
“She sells her products next to a famous shop on Le Loi Street in the Hoi An Ancient Town,” Lanh elaborated.
A stern penalty is expected to be imposed upon the woman for her poor conduct toward the tourists, the official added.
