The repair work on the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable system was complete on Sunday, according to a the network operator.
The AAG cable system is a 20,000-kilometer submarine communications cable system connecting Southeast Asia with the U.S. mainland across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.
The problem was detected on the branch connecting Vietnam and Hong Kong in late October 2021, but the repair was repeatedly postponed due to various reasons, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

International Internet connection in Vietnam is now completely restored after all malfunctions on major submarine cable systems were solved, the network operator confirmed on Monday.
The errors on the Intra-Asia (IA) and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) cable systems were fixed in late February.
A glitch was previously identified on the IA in mid-February, while the APG encountered a problem over three months ago.
The IA, with a total length of 6,800 kilometers, links Internet users in Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Japan.

The APG, which runs about 10,400 kilometers underwater across the Pacific Ocean, connects Vietnam with mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore, according to the Tuoi Tre newspaper.
Internet usage in Vietnam is predominantly mobile-based, thanks to the high smartphone penetration rate. Using the internet has become a daily habit among many Vietnamese people, with multiple purposes including work, study, entertainment, and more.
