Currently, people with the following conditions should not receive the COVID-19 vaccine to avoid unwanted effects:
– Have a history of anaphylaxis to components of the COVID-19 vaccine.
– Are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19. (You can, of course, get vaccinated if you’ve recovered from the illness and your doctor agrees.)
When deciding to go for the vaccine, it is important to rest the night before and drink enough water before the injection.
At the vaccination site:
Follow safety recommendations at the vaccination facility, such as social distancing and wearing a mask while waiting.
Inform your healthcare provider about your medical condition, problems such as pregnancy or a weak immune system.
You will receive a vaccination card stating which vaccines you received, when, and where. Preserve this card in case you need it in the future.
After vaccination:
The medical staff will observe you for about 15 minutes immediately after the vaccination to make sure you do not have any allergic reactions. Anaphylaxis is quite rare.
Vaccines help build immunity against diseases. However, there will be cases of mild side effects – these will go away within a few days.
Side effects after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine include: Hand pain at the injection site, low-grade fever, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint pain, chills, diarrhea…
If the above symptoms persist for more than a few days or you have a more severe allergic reaction, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Building immunity takes time. You will be considered fully vaccinated against COVID-29 2 weeks after you receive the 2nd dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech or Moderna vaccine, 15 days after the 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 2 weeks after Vaccination requires only one dose of J&J/Janssen.
Although these vaccines are quite effective, experts are still studying whether people who receive these vaccines can still transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus (even if they do not have symptoms). Therefore, even after vaccination, you still need to practice safe hygiene measures to prevent illness for yourself and others, such as avoiding crowded places, social distancing, washing hands, and wearing a mask.
