National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has announced its international flight re-opening plan from July 1 following a long suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vietnam Airlines will resume flights to South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Laos and Cambodia first.
For South Korea, the firm will provide seven flights on HCM City/Hanoi-Seoul and 3-4 flights on HCM City/Hanoi-Busan routes per week.
Vietnam Airlines will conduct 3-4 weekly flights on HCM City/Hanoi-Hong Kong route and HCM City/Hanoi-Taiwan route each respectively.
The airline will provide more flights for Southeast Asian markets such as Thailand, Singapore, Lao and Cambodia than for South Korea and Taiwan.
Specifically, there will be seven daily flights on HCM City/Hanoi-Bangkok, HCM City-Singapore, Hanoi-Vientiane, Vientiane – Phnom Penh routes.
According to Vietnam Airlines, this is only the carrier’s plan which is still waiting for being approved by authorities. The firm has made preparations for the resumption.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee to identify foreign markets which are safe for Vietnamese airlines to resume their flights. The government leaders said that they are destinations which do not see any Covid-19 case within 30 days.
