Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department said that tens of thousands of packages and containers of goods were imported to the city during the last three months without receivers. SGGP reports.
The number of unwanted goods is found most at the agency’s express delivery division with 5,353 parcels. Cat Lai seaport has 2,662 containers while Tan Son Nhat International Airport has over 2,300 parcels in its warehouses.
According to the HCMC Customs Department, most of the above goods are prohibited from import, temporarily imported for re-export, kept according to requirement by investigation agencies and scrap imported to make material for domestic production without environmental protection certification.
The agency has applied many solutions to handle the above goods. For instance, it has publicly announced to seek their owners. Sixty days after the announcement, the agency will handle the goods according to regulations by the Ministry of Finance if no one comes to receive.
In addition, the agency permitted businesses or shipping lines to re-export their consignments and pay all relevant costs. In case they want to cancel the shipment, they can do that if agreeing to pay all related costs and signing contracts with businesses eligible for goods destroy to prevent environmental pollution.
Moreover, the HCMC Customs Department has required relevant sides to work with warehouse and port businesses to classify the stagnant goods to have suitable handling steps.
