Two young fishermen rescued five drowning children on Wednesday afternoon in the Ròon River in Cảnh Dương Commune, Quảng Trạch District, the central province of Quảng Bình.
After being rescued, two of the children were taken to hospital.
The children were all cousins who had been taken to the river for swimming by their parents. At about 5pm on Wednesday, the kids aged from 10 to 12 slipped down when swimming and were swept away by water flow. One of their fathers tried to reach and rescue the kids but was unable to. He then called for help.
The two fishermen heard the call and quickly sailed their boat out to rescue the kids.
At that time, the fishermen Phạm Thế Cường, 23 years old and Võ Khánh Thành, 17, were sailing to shore on their boat.
