Specifically, the proportion of spending by internationally-issued cards for dining services was 40%; for fashion and cosmetics, it was about 14%; for jewelry and watches, approximately 12%; and for supermarkets and convenience stores, more than 10%. This partly reflects the attractiveness of Vietnamese cuisine to international tourists.
Payoo is one of the leading payment intermediaries in Vietnam. To date, Payoo’s services cover over 99% of the districts, towns, and cities nationwide. Payoo connects with more than 100 banks, financial companies, insurance companies, and over 2,000 business partners.
The increase in international tourists’ spending is partly due to the strong recovery of the tourism sector, with the number of international tourists continuously rising. According to the General Statistics Office, in the first five months of 2024, nearly 7.6 million international tourists visited Vietnam, an increase of 65% compared to the same period last year and nearly 4% compared to the same period in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. Experts have assessed that Vietnam’s new visa policy has somewhat created an attraction and significantly increased the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism industry.

With the development of the culinary tourism sector after the Covid-19 pandemic, the Michelin Guide decided to enter Vietnam in December 2023. This organization has awarded stars to restaurants and eateries in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and most recently, Da Nang. Recently, the Michelin Guide announced the 2024 list in Vietnam.
Accordingly, 164 restaurants and establishments were honored, with 58 dining establishments receiving the Bib Gourmand award (28 new establishments and one restaurant transferred from Michelin Selected), and 99 dining establishments receiving the Michelin Selected award with 40 new establishments; seven restaurants received the Michelin Star award.
The Michelin Guide’s expansion into Vietnam has generated significant attention and interest from international tourists. When a restaurant, hotel, or tourist destination in Vietnam is reviewed and recommended in the Michelin Guide, it attracts the attention of international tourists, especially those who enjoy unique culinary experiences and local culture.
