The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board has reported to the City People’s Committee that they are finishing work on Metro Line No. 1, which will be open for service in August. The subway will serve the people of Ho Chi Minh City, who have been waiting for it for 15 years.
At the city center, the entrances and exits to the underground station have been completed. The subway’s interior is simple, convenient, clean, and modern, and it runs at the designed speed. It has 17 trains and 51 carriages running continuously and is expected to serve over 180,000 passengers per day.
Ho Chi Minh City is considering initially offering free or reduced ticket prices for this train route to encourage the use of public transportation. This would help create a habit of using public transportation, which is a more sustainable way to travel.
However, there is still work to be done, such as completing the construction of office building items, checking and adjusting machinery, and coordinating with parties to accept fire prevention and fighting, environment, and evaluate system safety.
The Urban Railway Management Board has announced that Metro Line No. 1 will have a trial commercial operation in July. Complete auditing and settlement procedures will be performed, and it will officially commence commercial operation in August 2024. The Board is committed to ensuring that the Metro line meets the highest safety and quality standards.
