Bridges crossing the Red River are among the priorities for development in Hanoi this year.
According to the planning until 2030, Hanoi will have a total of 16 bridges spanning the Red River, facilitating seamless connectivity between economic and political centers, between localities, and satellite urban areas.
Inspired by the wings of peace, one of the four bridge projects will commence in Hanoi this year. The Thuong Cat Bridge, spanning the Red River, will contribute to the comprehensive development of transportation infrastructure, connecting the central urban area with suburban areas, the future northern capital city, and Vinh Phuc province.
Apart from the Thuong Cat Bridge, the other three bridges, Van Phuc, Hong Ha, Me So will also be constructed in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
Among them, Hong Ha and Me So are two bridges on Ring Road 4, expected to mark a turning point in the development of the capital.
Thuong Cat Bridge is one of four bridge projects that will start construction in Hanoi this year.
In addition to the four bridges starting construction this year, according to the planning until 2030, Hanoi will have four more bridges connecting both sides of the Red River, including Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, Ngoc Hoi and Phu Xuyen bridges.
Over 100 years ago, Long Bien was the first iron bridge connecting both sides of the Red River in Hanoi, becoming a part of the city’s history. In the autumn days of 1954, the bridge welcomed the victorious troops returning to liberate the capital and has since served as a vital link for trade between the two riverbanks.
Many other bridges have been built in subsequent years, shaping a progressively modern skyline for the city.
Hanoi currently has 8 bridges spanning the Red River, serving as both historical witnesses and focal points for the city’s development. Hanoi has evolved into a major urban center with abundant potential and opportunities, with a new development orientation toward the Red River.
To realize this vision, Hanoi needs more than just bridges spanning the river, providing impetus for the economic and social development of the capital in the future.
