C.C. Chan, a technical scientist from Hong Kong (China) who specializes in electric cars, believes it is time for the automotive revolution to enter a new phase.
Mr. Chan told the Xinhua news agency that the first step was electrification and that it is now time to move on to the second stage, which would include automotive processors and operating systems as fundamental technologies.
Mr. Chan believes that in the future, automobiles will evolve from conventional means of transportation to smart mobile travel devices that integrate transportation, energy, information, and cultural networks.
Electric cars are currently directly linked to people’s everyday commutes, thus Mr. Chan stated that scientists should not only focus on breakthroughs in research and development (R&D) but also consider market demand and acceptability; only in this way can R&D progress.
