VIENTIANE — Vũng Tàu, Huế and Quy Nhơn cities have won the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard award for 2024-26.
The awards were announced at a ceremony held on January 26 within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum in the Lao capital Vientiane.
The coastal city of Vũng Tàu in Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province previously won the award in 2020 and 2022, the city People’s Committee said, demonstrating the collective efforts of the local government and communities to maintain standards of cleanliness and protect the environment.
The city, which gets 6-6.5 million visitors a year, has great potential for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, sea tourism and eco-tourism.
Huế in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province is also winning the award for a third time, and for Quy Nhơn in Bình Định Province it is the second time.
The awards are based on environment management, cleanliness, waste management, building awareness about environmental protection and cleanliness, green spaces, health safety, urban safety and security, and tourism infrastructure and facilities. —VNS
